July 1, 2002, Sunnyvale, Calif. - Oki Optical Components (OOC), a leading technology partner for the new era of digital communications and convergence, today released a new Electro-Absorption modulator with an integrated DFB laser (EML) for the 40 Gbps marketplace. The OL5155M is designed especially for OC-768-based fiber optic networks, delivering a cost-effective, compact, easily deployable solution for customers who are rolling-out 40 Gbps Metro, Intermediate and Long-haul network infrastructures. "Oki Optical Components continues to execute on its strategy to provide our customers with compelling 40 Gbps products, and the OL5155M offers an excellent integrated solution that is low in cost," said Dennis Chu, director of marketing at OOC. "The OL5155M is designed for the higher-performance demands of 40 Gbps optical networks, with a compact design and a very good extinction ratio." The OL5155M, which is a 1550-nm DFB laser diode, is monolithically integrated with an Electro-Absorption (EA) modulator, providing a very stable, space-saving module that is low in modulation voltage and easy to integrate into 40 Gbps optical networks. Application includes 40 Gbps very short reach (<2 km) and 40Gbps NRZ / RZ medium and long reach transmission. Features of the OL5155M include:
