March 19, 2002 Anaheim, Calif., OFC Conference, Embedded Systems Conference — Oki Semiconductor, a leading technology partner for the new era of digital communications and convergence, today released a new Electroabsorption modulator with an integrated DFB laser (EML) for the 10 Gbps marketplace. The OL5150M is designed especially for OC-192 based fiber optic networks, delivering a cost-effective, compact, easily deployable solution for customers who are rolling-out 10 Gbps Metro and Intermediate-reach network infrastructures. "Our new OL5150M offers customers a compelling, cost effective choice for their varying optical network rollout needs, as well as providing very good dynamic extinction ratio (>10dB) and low modulation voltage (<2.5V) compared to Lithium Niobate (LN) modulators," said Dennis Chu, director of optical component marketing at Oki Semiconductor. "For 10 Gbps optical networks, the OL5150M is ideal for transmissions up to 40 kilometers." The OL5150M is a 1550 nm laser diode that is monolithically integrated with an Electroabsorption modulator, providing a very stable optical output and a compact module design that is low in power consumption and easy to integrate into optical networks.
